Farmer Boy Blog Post #3

Mr. Corse is the new teacher at Almanzo’s new school. Mr. Corse is the new teacher because the bully at the school beat up the last teacher because he yelled at him. Well, Mr. Corse knew about the bully and still decided to take the job as the new teacher. The school is a small one classroom school with a couple of windows and a lot of students. At this school the teacher has to spend a week with the student’s family. Since Almanzo has the biggest family, which goes to the school, Mr. Corse spent the first week with Almanzo’s family. Mr. Corse and Almanzo’s father became really close and Mr. Corse told him what was going on with the bully. The bully was being mean to everyone, even Mr. Corse, and he disobeyed a lot. Throughout the week, Mr. Corse kept telling him stories about the bully.  Eventually, Almanzo’s dad gave him a horse whip so he could punish the bully. Big Bill Ritchie is an older student at the school in the book. He is a big guy and he likes to pick on the smaller kids. Almost every person in the town hates him and his possy of boys because they are so mean to everyone. When the kids at school have recess Big Bill Ritchie and his friends always leave school. Well, one day Mr. Corse got tired of the possy leaving school and them being mean to everyone. Mr. Corse brought a horse whip to school and whipped Big Bill Ritchie and one of the people in his possy. The possy did not come to school the next day to face the class and Mr. Corse. When another classmate saw the whipping he did not want to come to school either. He told his father about the whipping at school and his father said, “ I know. I gave Mr. Corse the whip.” Mr. Corse whipped Big Bill Ritchie until his shirt and pants were torn and his ar,s were bruised, cut, and bleeding. In Farmer Boy by Laura Ingalls Wilder, Almanzo is a nine year old boy that lives with older siblings Eliza Jane, Alice, and Royal. Almanzo is starting his first day of school. I remember how hard my first day of school was. I didn’t know anybody and I was very nervous. I feel bad for Almanzo and his family because they have to walk miles to school and back. The kids had to bring food for the whole class and Almanzo had to carry it the whole way to school. I would hate to carry my whole classes’ lunch to school. When Almanzo gets home he has to milk the cows and then his dad comes around to check his work. I would not like my dad judging my work because he might gripe and moan about how bad my work was or he might be way to excited about how my work. Almanzo’s mom makes a fresh dinner every night.
